19th November, 1886.
The transfer of the charges of the Smallpox Hospital to Dr Marques would, of course, relieve to a certain extent the greatest stress of work in the Civil Hospital, however, comes during the tropical heat of the summer; when it is most difficult to bear it, while the duties of the Smallpox Hospital last, as a rule, from December to June. Constant dropping will wear away a stone, and the unceasing duties of the Civil Hospital, day and night, Sunday and week day, all the year round, can never be properly performed.
